The Ballad of an Alcoholic

Got to cut my nails, got to shave my face,
got to clean my place, till there is no trace
of the two-week booze day-and-night abuse…
And my head is aching, and my will keeps breaking
down…

Down, down, down…

Have to find the strength and get on my feet…
Have to go out, buy something to eat…
And I’m so afraid of facing the street…
‘Cause I can’t stop shaking, and my nerves keep breaking
down…

Down, down, down…

See an open bottle, right next to the sink…
I jump off the chair, fix myself a drink…
And I take the glass, I kiss it and hug it…
While smelling the whiskey, I smile and I slug it
down…

Down, down, down…

And my head’s not aching… And my hands stop shaking…
